POC simulation tool

When we have a new customer in the pipeline, our team aims to demonstrate our technology and its benefits effectively. To achieve this, we create a Proof of Concept (POC) simulation tailored to the customer's specific location and business. This simulation showcases the optimal way to deploy our devices to achieve the best results, providing clear value to the customer.

Manual code is so old school

Currently, creating these simulations involves manually writing code and scripts, a process that takes about 1.5 weeks for even basic simulations. This approach is time-consuming and inflexible, hindering our ability to respond quickly to customer needs.

With our new simulation tool, we are transforming this workflow.
The tool offers a user-friendly interface, drastically reducing the time needed to create a simulation from 1.5 weeks to just a few hours—a
90% reduction in time!

The Design Process

The development of this new simulation tool was an iterative process focused on usability and efficiency.

The first draft of the tool was designed with a linear, wizard-like path, which proved to be too rigid for users. During usability testing, we discovered that users found it difficult to navigate and had many questions about how to proceed.

Based on this feedback, we made significant changes to the tool’s design.

Flexible Navigation & Customization Freedom

Instead of a one-way path, the new design allows users to move back and forth freely. This flexibility enables users to make changes on the fly, accommodating customer requests and varying use cases. Users can now customize simulations at any stage of the process. This capability ensures that simulations can be tailored precisely to customer specifications, leading to more accurate and impactful POCs.

Handling Complex Data and Values

Creating simulations involves entering a complex hierarchy of data and specific values for each component. This process is often not straightforward, as each component requires detailed and precise information. To simplify this complexity, we implemented several key features:

Simplified UX Components
We designed user interface components that are intuitive and easy to use. Dropdown menus, tooltips, and inline help texts guide users through the data entry process, ensuring accuracy and ease of use.

 

Copy, Copy, Copy
We focused on improving the copy within the tool to make instructions clearer and more concise. This helps users enter the correct information without confusion.

 

Consistency and Validation
To ensure data integrity, the tool includes validation checks that guide users in entering correct values, reducing errors and rework.
